Summer Reading Kickoff

Join Midland County Public Libraries as we celebrate the beginning of this year’s Summer Reading Program and the opening of the Super Kids Save the World exhibit!

Now you can be a super hero with the new Super Kids Save The World exhibit! Designed using “green” materials and practices, the exhibit provides visitors with real super hero training starting with the four R’s: Reduce, Re-use, Repair, Recycle. Kids of all ages will enjoy working through demonstrations in the exhibit to feel more empowered to protect the Earth and its resources, leading them to become Super Kids in their communities!

The exhibit features include:
• A family home with garden
• A re-use charity shop, where kids learn to donate outgrown items instead of discarding them
• A recycle center, where today’s trash becomes the materials of tomorrow
• A gas station, where families learn tips to reduce fuel consumption
• A farmer’s market, where foods come free of wasteful packaging
• A research lab, where alternative fuel sources are under development

We will have jumpers, crafts, games, activities, food, a special storytime with local author Morgan Adams, and you can sign up for this year’s Summer Reading Program!

Contact the Youth Services dept. at 432-742-7445 for more information.

Gardening 101: Native Beauties

Learn how to bring out the natural beauty of West Texas in your backyard, no thorns required. We will introduce you to some native plants that will save you time, effort, and water, while still producing beautiful flowers to attract native pollinators and awe from your neighbors. We’ll also show you some of the fruits and vegetables best adapted to grow here in our native climate. So join us on Saturday, June 3rd in the Sibley Youth and Family Garden.

What is Flow Yoga?
Flow yoga is a term given to a style of yoga where the practitioner moves from one pose to the next and the class, or practice, becomes almost like a dance. Generally, each movement in to or out of a posture is made on an inhalation or exhalation, so the yoga unites the breath with the movement in a choreographed sequence. The flowing movements may be combined with some longer holds of certain postures. Flow yoga is also called Vinyasa Flow yoga. (Source: Yogapedia.com)
