Today! Please call our House rep today (Rep. Craddick for Midland and Rep. Landgraf for Ector county).
The House is hearing this bill at 11am in general session. They will hear it again tomorrow.
HB455 is supported formally by Texas PTA and a coalition of health and wellness organizations and children’s advocacy groups across the state.Dear Texas Parents, Midland Parents. Odessa Parents, Gardendale Parents, West Texas Parents, etc.
Our kids need our help. Our kids need our voice.
Last year we worked so hard to advocate for more recess for our elementary school kids. Many schools in Midland heard us and began to implement a more child friendly recess schedule. We are thankful! Our kids are thankful!
-- We need your help again--
-- Would you consider spending 3 minutes helping again?--
Please help our kids by calling our representatives and asking them to vote YES on
SB364 (Senator Kel Seliger) - (512) 463-0131
HB455 (RepresentativeTom Craddick) (512) 463-0500
and Brooks Landgraff for Ector County (512) 463-0546
These two "recess bills" have been voted favorably out of their education committees. This is GOOD news!
If these bills pass, it would require ISDs in Texas to work with our/their local student health advisory councils (majority whom must be parents, by law) to consider the research on the benefits of supervised unstructured play for elementary school children. Last year 92% of parents reported that they wanted more recess for their kids. Many kids got more, but not all. We need to have the opportunity to work with our school board to draft a written policy to safeguard recess and that reflects our community's values! Your values!
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, any voter can call and ask them to vote YES on these bills. They will ask for your name and info to make sure you live in their/our district. They track how many people call in for each bill so please call and let them know we are watching how they vote on these bills and ask them to #SayYesToRecess!
When I called they were so kind. They asked to "have others who want these bills to pass call us also. We want to know what our voters want so we can vote accordingly."

Best part about the session today... they had to take a “recess” so their members could have lunch and a break before they resumed proceedings. 👍👏 Adults get recess and so too should kids - kids should get even more. The legislatures took a 1 hour 45 minute recess in the middle of their day. 🤷♀️👍 We are optimistic.
